Movement for Life

Following a surgical procedure, your physiotherapist will carry out an assessment to understand your physical problems and limitations.  Your personal goals will be established and a treatment plan will be formulated specifically for you. Ultimately, the aim is to help you return to your previous level of function by strengthening your muscles and increasing your range of movement in your joints and reduce swelling.

  • There are a range of treatment techniques that can be used such as massage to help break down scar tissue and to encourage circulation to the healing area.

  • Specific functional movements and exercises designed to help you improve flexibility, strength and balance.

  • Support and help to teach you how to wean off your walking aids safely (such as zimmer frames, crutches and walking sticks).

  • How to move up and down stairs safely and correctly.

  • You will be provided with a personalised rehabilitation programme to help speed up your recovery and achieve your personal goals.

  • Restore your previous level of movement to the same (or even better) standard than it was before surgery.
